children were found to be suffering from diarrhoea, and bacteriological
examination of rectal swabs showed that the infection was
Sonne Dysentery. Thereupon all children and members of the
staff were swabbed, and eight further children were found to be
carriers of Sonne Dysentery.
All positive reactors were excluded, and were not allowed to
return until after three successive swabs proved to be negative.
Two children were found to be carriers of Sonne Dysentery ;
and excluded until they were proved to be free from risk of infection.
Attendances.—The following table shows the average daily
attendance at the Council's two Day Nurseries during 1947.
