WAR-TIME DAY NURSERIES.
In 1942 two war-time Day Nurseries, one at Knotts Green
and one in Ellingham Road, were established in this Borough;
and they have both been open for the care of children during the
year 1944.
Extension of Nursery Accommodation.
In August, 1943, a communication was received from the
Ministry of Health to the effect that representation had been
made by the Ministry of Labour and National Service that
additional nursery accommodation was required in the Borough.
Thereupon, in order to. ascertain the extent of such need and the
amount of nursery accommodation required, a special investigation
of factories was undertaken in order to find out the number of
employed mothers who wished accommodation to be found in
war-time nurseries for their children under 5 years of age. After
consideration of all aspects of the representation made by the
Ministry of Labour and National Service, the Maternity and Child
Welfare Authority recommended (1) the erection of a new nursery
on a suitable site in the Lea Bridge area; and (2) an extension of
