SCABIES.
My last Annual Report contains information regarding the
Scabies Order, 1941, and the arrangements made under the provisions
of that Order for the treatment and control of Scabies.
The special clinic at Ruckholt School is available for treatment
daily, and sessions as required are arranged in the evenings and
during week-ends.
The routine course of treatment is two baths, followed by
thorough application of Benzyl Benzoate Emulsion (25 per cent-.).
In some very mild cases among contacts one routine treatment may
be found to be sufficient; but the preponderating majority requires
at least two treatments. Many patients gave histories of having
had scabies for many months, and it was only when the infection
became septic that advice was sought. In such cases, more than
two treatments were required for the eradication of symptoms.

CIVIL AMBULANCE SERVICE.
»
Prior to the outbreak of war the Borough Civil Ambulance
Service had been under the control of Leyton Fire Brigade and
manned by Fire Brigade personnel.
After the absorption of the local Fire Brigade in the National
Fire Service the Home Office issued a Circular in which it was
stated that it would not be possible for the National Fire Service
to carry on any ambulance duties for which Fire Brigades were
responsible ; and that it would therefore be necessary to make
other arrangements which would free for fire fighting duties any
members of Fire Brigades who were employed on ambulance work.
