Forty-seven patients were admitted during 1940 under the
terms of this agreement.
Nursing Homes Registration Act, 1927.
There are three registered nursing homes in the Borough.
These institutions were inspected on 12 occasions.
Home Helps.
Under the Council's scheme for the provision of home helps,
172 applications for home helps were dealt with. In 139 cases (19
of whom made application in 1939), home helps were provided,
43 of these cases having the charges remitted in accordance with the
Council's scale. In the 52 remaining cases, 11 made other arrangements
for the confinement, and 13 cases had not been confined at
the end of the year.
Puerperal Pyrexia.
Saventeen cases of puerperal pyrexia were notified during
the year.
The causes of pyrexia were considered to be :—
Pyelitis 3
Puerperal mania 1
Endometritis 1
Influenza 2
Cystitis 1
Absorption of blood from peritoneal cavity
following caesarean section 1
Puerperal sepsis 1
Mastitis 5
Not known 2

Obstetric Consultant.
The advice of the Council's Consultant Obstetrician was sought
on one occasion during the year.
