Public Health Act, 1936. Child Life Protection.
On 1st January, 23 foster mothers and 24 children—and at
the end of the year 17 foster mothers and 18 children—were subject
to inspection.
The Council's Child Protection Visitors made 139 visits of
inspection during the year.

The average number in attendance at the Ante-Natal Clinics
held at the Council's two Centres during 1940 was 8.48 per session.
The number of home visits made by Health Visitors to
expectant mothers during the year was 192.
Maternity Beds.
In November, 1939, your Council entered into an agreement
with the Mother's Hospital, Clapton, for the provision of maternity
bed accommodation on the following terms :—
Total cost per bed for fourteen days :
Five guineas for first confinements.
Four guineas for subsequent confinements.
Any case kept in hospital more than fourteen days
is charged at the rate of 6s. 0d. per additional day.
