CHILDREN ON THE REGISTERS.
The number of children attending the Elementary Schools in
Leyton was as follows:—
December, 1910 c20,337
1911 20,800
,, 1912 21,025
,, 1913 21,109
,, 1914 21,237
Following the practice of previous years, the School Medical
Officer has visited each School to give the Head Teachers notice
of an impending Medical Inspection, and advantage has been
taken of the opportunity thus given to discuss matters affecting
the welfare of the children. Head Teachers send notices to the
parents or guardians of children about to be inspected informing
them of the date and time when their children will be examined
and inviting them to be present. These invitations were largely
accepted by the parents; thus over 85% of the entrants were
accompanied by a parent, and 76% of the girl-leavers, while in
about 80% of the "intermediate" group a parent attended.
Examinations were usually conducted in a class-room, and
in some instances in a Teacher's room.
In the case of 45 children the parents declared their objection
to medical inspection at School. This is quite an insignificant
number, and the attitude taken up was chiefly due to misconception
on the part of the parents as to the utility of examination.
The objections were received at the following Schools:—
Cann Hall Road 5
Canterbury Road 5
Capworth Street 2
Church Road 1
Farmer Road 2
Goodall Road 10
Kirkdale Road 1
Newport Road 1
Norlington Road 2
Ruckholt Road 11
St. Joseph's 2
Trumpington Road 3
