CHANGES IN THE STAFF.
ABSENCE OF SCHOOL MEDICAL OFFICER ON MILITARY
SERVICE.
On August 4th, 1914, the order was given for the mobilisation
of the Territorial Forces; this necessitated Dr. Taylor's relinquishing
his civil duties, and he thereupon joined his Battery as
Surgeon-Captain in the Honourable Artillery Company.
The Council appointed me Deputy School Mcdical Officer to
carry out Dr. Taylor's duties during his absence, and the vacancy
thus caused was filled by the appointment, as Assistant Medical
Officer, of Dr. Edith Shannon, who had had experience of School
Medical Inspection under other Authorities.
SCHOOL NURSES.
Nurse Fry left your service in November, when she received
a school post under the London County Council. She was
succeeded by Miss Bessie Clipstone, who was appointed to assist
in Medical Inspection in the Schools.
It was found necessary to make an additional appointment of
a Nurse to assist the Dentist and Oculist at the School Clinic and
to carry out other similar duties under the direction of the School
Medical Officer. For this post Miss Lilian Dodd was selected,
and she commenced work on November 16th.
APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS FOR THE TREATMENT
OF CHILDREN IN THE SCHOOL CLINIC.
Dr. Arthur Cummings was appointed School Oculist, and it
was arranged that he should attend on two mornings in each
week of the School Terms to examine and prescribe spectacles
for children found to have defective vision.
Mr. P. E. Chandler, L.D.S., received the post of School
Dentist as a whole-time officer, his duties to include the inspection
of children's teeth in the Schools and the treatment at the Clinic
of those suffering from dental caries.
