NOTES ON SANITARY WORK AND MATTERS
INCIDENTAL THERETO.
SEWERAGE AND DRAINAGE.
The sewer in Shortlands Road to the length of 205 yards
has been re-laid.
Many private drains have been re-constructed, for particulars
of which see the Sanitary Inspector's Report.
SEWAGE DISPOSAL.
The scheme for admitting our sewage, together with that of
several neighbouring Authorities, into the London County
Council's sewers has not yet materialised.
The new circular tank at the Sewage Works was completed
on the 24th July, and was opened on the following day by the
Chairman of the Public Health Committee. It was found to work
satisfactorily, and was capable of dealing with the whole of the
dry weather flow of sewage. In order that the winter flow should
be treated in the same manner, it was deemed advisable that a
second circular tank should be constructed. It was considered that
this additional tank accommodation would be required for the
treatment of the surface water should the Council decide to join
in the London County Council's sewerage system.
The Council having approved of the provision of a second
tank, the matter was put in hand, and the Contractor began work
on November 9th.
A mess-room has been built for the use of the employees in
the Destructor Works adjoining the boundary wall in Auckland
Road; the building comprises mess-room, cloak and locker-room
and sanitary accommodation. A similar room has been constructed
for the use of the employees in the Sewage Disposal Works.
12,075 tons of sludge have been purchased of us during the
year.
