The latrines belonging to all the schools in the district were
cleansed, lime-whited and overhauled during the Easter vacation.
Cleansing and flushing of drains was carried out during the
Easter, Whitsun and Summer holidays.
The gas fittings at the several schools were examined before
the commencement of the winter season, also at Christmas.
The suggestion contained in the Report of last year as to
the necessity for the school windows being cleaned between the
Summer and Christmas vacations, in addition to the four annual
cleanings they now receive, has not been acted upon.
I wash to again bring this matter under the notice of the
committee.
The ordinary mica flaps provided to the drain air-inlets being
continually reported by the Sanitary Inspectors to be out of order,
frequently through the mischievous interference of the scholars,
the use of Barker's patent air-inlets, which cannot be thus interfered
with, was suggested. The committee have in consequence
instructed the architect in future to replace any defective air-inlets
by ones of this pattern.
