It was arranged that the children on the feeding lists should
present themselves at the Town Hall on Saturday morning to be
weighed, but their attendance has been so irregular that no
reliable data have been obtained.
LEYTON CHILDREN'S COUNTRY HOLIDAY FUND.
This Voluntary Fund was started last year by a committee of
lr.dies and gentlemen residing in the district.
Its object is to secure for as many of the Leyton School
children as its funds will allow a short holiday in the country or
seaside.
The Chairman of the Fund is Mr. Councillor Read, a member
of the Education Committee, and his wife, Mrs. Read, is the hon.
secretary.
On June 20th 39 girls were sent to the Girls' Bungalow at
Canvey Island, and on July 25th 49 boys were sent away.
"The arrangements were all carried out satisfactorily, the
weather was extremely favourable, and in every case good reports
were received of the homes to which the children were sent.
"Great care is taken in seeing that only suitable cases are
helped. To secure this the committee has been most materially
aided by the Superintendent of School Visitors, Mr. Lash, and his
staff."
The above quotation from the annual report of the Fund
illustrates that the Fund is doing good work on the right lines, and
it is to be hoped the financial assistance necessary for its extension
will be forthcoming.
