We received notice from H.M. Inspector of Factories of 13 nuisances existing in factories and workshops, and remediable under the Public Health Acts, which I give below, with result of action taken:—

Homework.—The District Council, under Sections 107—110
of this Act, are given important powers for controlling the
conditions under which certain classes of work, as specified from
time to time by the Secretary of State, are done in the homes of
the workers.
A register is kept of the names and addresses of the outworkers,
and the homes are regularly inspected, with a view to
securing a hygienic standard in all places where such work is
done. Any insanitary conditions found to exist are dealt with and
remedied, and where a case of infectious disease occurs at any of
