REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF HOUSE REFUSE.
No alteration in the system reported upon in the Reports of
the past two years has taken place. Each house has its refuse
removed twice weekly. The open two-wheeled cart is still used for
the collection.
20,673 tons of house refuse and 340 tons of pressed sludge
have been burnt in the Destructor.
In 1912 21,312 tons, and in 1911 11,246 tons of house refuse
were similarly burnt.
Acting on the suggestion of the Medical Officer of Health, the
Council ordered the discontinuance of dumping of house refuse in
the grounds of the Sewage Works.
OFFENSIVE TRADES.
The Council has granted permission for the establishment of
the trade of a fish fryer at 108, Harrow Road, and for that of a
dealer in rags at 42, Beaumont Road.
A request to allow a fish fryer to commence business in
Hainault Road was refused.
SANITARY CONVENIENCES.
Last year it was stated that the proposal to build an underground
convenience for both sexes in the Lea Bridge Road at its
junction with Markhouse Road had been abandoned.
The question of this site has recently been revived, but no
definite action has been taken up to now.
The problem as to how to provide a convenience in the
neighbourhood of the junction of Crownfield, Cann Hall, and Leytonstone
Roads still awaits solution. This is the position above
all others where such a convenience is urgently demanded.
