Under these regulations I have received from that date to
December 31st notifications of 288 cases of Pulmonary Tuberculosis
and 195 of other forms of Tuberculosis.
All these cases have been periodically visited about once in
three months by the Health Visitor, and verbal and written instructions
have been given as to the necessary precautions to be
taken to prevent the spread of the disease.
Enquiries have also been made as to any other cases of
suspicious illness among other inhabitants of the house, and advice
to seek medical assistance has been offered; also cases have been
referred to the Tuberculosis Officer, through the Medical Officer
of Health. Sanitary conditions have been enquired into, and
defects found to exist have been remedied. Disinfectants have
been supplied, and disinfection of premises carried out
in cases of death or where sufferers from the disease have vacated
their dwellings. Some spit flasks have been supplied, and
bacteriological examination of sputum has been undertaken at the
request of the patients' Medical Attendants. Particulars of the
above work have been recorded on cards, and the cards are kept
in the Public Health Department, where they are always available
for reference.
The Tuberculosis Dispensary at Leyton continues to be held
at the Town Hall, but a house has been taken for the purpose
close to Leyton (G.E.R.) Station, to which premises the Dispensary
will be transferred early in the year 1914.
The new premises are within easy distance of the Town Hall.
Dr. Pitt, the Tuberculosis Officer, has found it necessary to
increase the days of attendance to two per week. He now attends
on Mondays, 3 to 6 p.m., and Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m.
With a view to prevent overlapping between the officers
appointed by the Local and County Authorities the following
arrangements have been made:—
