14 summonses were adjourned and then withdrawn, the
children becoming fit to return to school in the interval covering
the period of adjournment.
2 summonses were dismissed.
BLIND CHILDREN.
Three blind children are being maintained at our Council's
expense at the East London Home and School for the Blind, at
Clapton.
DEAF AND DUMB CHILDREN.
10 children have been sent to the Water Lane Deaf and Dumb
Centre, West Ham, our Council defraying expenses.
MENTALLY DEFECTIVE CHILDREN.
Four children are attending the Walthamstow Centre at
Shernhall Street, these being paid for by our Council.
SCHOOL NURSES OR HEALTH VISITORS.
In last year's report I drew attention to the fact that we only
possessed one School Nurse, and that her time was fully occupied
in attending and assisting at the Medical Inspections at the schools ;
and I recommended that another School Nurse or Health Visitor
should be appointed. The matter has been referred to a joint
Sub-Committee of the Education and Public Health Committees.
I think it possible that had we had such an officer during the Measles
epidemic, to visit the invaded homes of the poorer section of the
inhabitants, the mortality from that disease might have been
lessened.
