DRAINAGE.
The drainage of 105 houses have been reconstructed, many,
of which have formed portions of combined systems of drainage,
and the work done by the Council's workmen and the expenses
incurred recovered from the owners.
During the year 33 ventilating shafts were provided to the
public sewers.
DAIRIES, COWSHEDS, AND M1LKSHOPS.
There are 9 Cowsheds in the District. These have been
periodically visited, and generally found to be in a satisfactory
condition; the improvements effected during the year in the light,
ventilation, and drainage being maintained. The average number
of cows kept in these sheds amount to 91. There are 137 milk
sellers on the register. The majority of these are small dealers
and keep the milk in the shop. Attention has been given to
the cleanliness of the utensils and the protection of the milk
from dust, etc.
A model of an Improved Milk Cover—to be provided to all
counter receptacles—is on view in the Sanitary Inspector's
Office. We are requesting Milk Vendors to use same and we
have very little difficulty in getting them to procure these.
