The Swimming Pool water continues to be maintained at a very
high standard of purity and clarity and the building has been kept
clean, warm and well ventilated. The water is obtained from the main
supply and the high standard of purity is maintained by the plant at
the pool comprising 6 vertical sand filters 8ft. 6ins. in diameter, chemical
dosage plant for coagulation, aerator and chlorine dosage plant. The
plant is operated on the break-point chlorination method of sterilisation
and while the turnover period of the pool through the filters is normally
4 hours, this can be reduced to 3 hours during peak periods.
Included in the ventilation plant is an adequate air filter system."
Paddling Pools.
Four samples were taken from each of the four Paddling Pools, i.e.,
in May, June, July and August, 1959. Six of the samples were
' unsatisfactory'. This does not mean, of course, that they represented
any real prejudice to health and reflected, in fact, our habit of sampling
on occasion at times of maximum use.
The Engineer and Surveyor is in charge of this service and is fully
advised by me on the necessary safeguards.
