20
Schools Swimming Association, 310 more than the previous year.
Hornchurch Swimming Club has shown considerable progress, and due
to them the name of Hornchurch is becoming well known in Essex
swimming circles.
Nineteen Swimming Galas were held in the Pool during the year and
the advance bookings for 1959 show an increase on this and include the
English Schools National Championships and a Southern Counties A.S.A.
Championship Gala.
The Swimming Pool water continues to be maintained at a very high
standard of purity and clarity, and the building has been kept warm and
well ventilated. There appear to have been more regular patrons from
outside areas than during 1957, and many compliments have been paid
on the bright appearance and cleanliness of the building.

We co-operate with the Bath Superintendent and Engineer in maintaining
a high standard of quality. Twelve samples were taken by us
during the year and submitted for bacteriological and chemical analysis,
all of which were satisfactory.
Paddling Pools.
It is noteworthy that the pool at Harrow Lodge has been forsaken
by its long attendant sandpit (removed elsewhere). Maybe some day
sandpits will just be quietly discontinued. Four samples were taken from
each of the four Paddling Pools, i.e., in May, June, July and August, 1958.
One of the samples was unsatisfactory.
Disinfestation and Disinfection.
No change in our arrangements has taken place within the last year.
Rodent Control.
The advice of the Rodent Operative continues to be appreciated and
during the year 229 new infestations and 1,721 routine and re-visits
were made.
One notice was served during the year under the Prevention of
Damage by Pests Act.
