We co-operate with the Bath Superintendent and Engineer in
maintaining a high standard of quality. Nineteen samples were taken by
us during the year and submitted for bacteriological and chemical
analysis.
Crematorium.
The new Crematorium to serve South Essex was formally opened
in July. It is administered by the South Essex Crematorium Joint Committee
the constituent members being the Hornchurch Urban District
Council, Romford Borough Council and the Thurrock Urban District
Council, each represented by three members.
Paddling Pools.
Four samples were taken from each of the four Paddling Pools,
i.e., in May, June, July and August, 1957.
Disinfestation and Disinfection.
The trends in disinfection have changed over the years and the
necessity for disinfestation now seldom arises. Apart from the concurrent
disinfection at the time of illness which is now normally practised in
place of the former disinfection at the end of the illness (or terminal
disinfection) occasions do arise when bedding or something of that nature
is dealt with. The problem of disinfestation has been minimised by
the high standards of housing in the district.
Rodent Control.
The advice of the Rodent Operative continues to be appreciated
and during the year 145 new infestations and 1,158 routine and re-visits
were made.
Establishments for Massage or Special Treatment.
The Essex County Council granted licences to nine persons during
the year authorising them to carry on establishments for massage or
special treatment.
