Lest there be any false optimism however, it is clear that tuberculosis
whilst very much on the run is still capable of running quite strongly.
Its treatment has been advanced greatly, almost miraculously, in the past
20 years but its prevention still leaves us plenty of scope for endeavour.
The number of cases of tuberculosis on the register at the end of
the year was as follows:—
