Ice Cream.
The selling of this commodity wrapped is very strongly advocated
at the moment. It is of course very necessary that apart from
its being wrapped, it should be handled to the minimum degree,
and preferably not at all, before it is wrapped. The co-operation
of the public should also be sought in ensuring that the roads around
the vendors' premises do not resemble a "paper chase." Admittedly
children are very often the culprits in this respect and their care in
disposing of wrappers cannot always be guaranteed. It is, however,
surprising how well children will co-operate even at an early age if
any point is explained to them in language which they can understand
and the best way to ensure that they won't pay attention to
details of this kind is to believe that they are incapable of thought.
It might incidentally be pointed out that, in more favourable times
possibly, the number of cigarette cartons tossed here and there
doesn't suggest that adults are any more careful than children-
Registration of Manufacturers and Vendors of Ice Cream.
Ice cream manufacturers and vendors are required to be registered
by the local Council under Section 158 of the Essex County
Council Act, 1933, which was adopted by the Council by resolution
on 20th February, 1934.
During the year 15 applications for registration (all vendors)
were granted.
At the end of the year, 23 persons were registered as manufacturers
and 137 as vendors.
