Social Conditions.
The district is, to a considerable degree, residential in character
and building development which still continues rapidly, attracts new
residents to the district and increases the population very
considerably.
There are, however, still large areas in the district in which
agriculture remains a predominant occupation.
There are no conditions of occupation or environment which
have had a prejudicial effect on health.
There has been an increase in unemployment in the district
especially in the last quarter of the year. The unemployed persons
in the northern part of the district register at the Romford Employment
Exchange and those in the southern part at the Dagenham
Exchange.

The net births and deaths have been corrected for inward and outward transfers, as supplied by the Registrar-General.
