Closet Accommodation.
Throughout the district most of the houses are provided with
water-closets connected to the sewer.
At the beginning of the year there were approximately 425
cesspools which were emptied by the Council. The largest number
of cesspools is in a part of Rainham where the existing sewer is
somewhat shallow. With the exception of this area most of the
other cesspools still being used are in isolated parts of the district.
Public Cleansing.
The collection and disposal of house refuse are carried out under
the direction of the Surveyor. The Council have a fleet of S.D.
freighters which are closed vehicles with a low loading line
