INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
1. Milk Supply.
During the year there were 19 cowkeepers in the District with
farms registered under the Milk and Dairies Order, 1926, but two
of these producers gave up their business at Michaelmas reducing
the total to 17. These farms are all inspected from time to time
and samples of milk taken by the Sanitary Inspectors for examination
by the County Bacteriologist.
Production of Accredited Milk.
There are 8 dairy farms licensed by the County Council for the
production of Accredited Milk of which 4 are in Cranham Ward, 2
in Harold Wood Ward, 1 in Emerson Park Ward, and 1 in Rainham
Ward.
At the end of the year one other producer had applied to the
County Council for an Accredited Milk licence and his application
was under consideration.
Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1936.
Licences issued by the Council for the year ended 31st December,
1937.
15 licences have been issued to retail Tuberculin Tested Milk;
18 licences to retail Pasteurised Milk; and 2 licences to sell
Accredited Milk.
In addition 15 supplementary licences, namely 9 for Tuberculin
Tested Milk; 5 for Pasteurised Milk; and 1 for Accredited Milk,
were isued, these being licences required by retailers who hold
principal licences in another district and wish to sell milk in this
district from premises elsewhere.
Milk Retailers.
There are 23 milk retailers with registered premises in the
District, including 7 producers who are registered both as producers
and retailers.
In addition there are 15 persons registered as milk retailers in
Hornchurch, but whose premises are registered in neighbouring
districts.
