PREVALENCE OF AND CONTROL OVER INFECTIOUS
DISEASE.
Scarlet Fever.
216 case of Scarlet Fever giving a rate of 3.5 per 1.000 of the
population were notified as compared with 226 and a rate of 4.3 in
1934 and 209 and a rate of 5.4 in the year 1933.
The case rate in England and Wales was 2.96.
Most of the cases were mild in character.
There were no deaths.
153 cases were admitted to hospital including 119 to Rush
Green where the uncomplicated cases were detained in hospital
about 28 days. Antiscarlet serum was administered to all severe
cases and to other cases admitted early in the disease.
Diphtheria.
The number of cases of Diphtheria notified was 119 giving a
rate of 1.9 per 1,000 of the population.
The case rate in England and Wales was 1.6.
In the year 1934 there were 158 cases and a case rate of 3.02
per 1,000.
There were 8 deaths from this disease as follows:—
