In addition 39 cases belonging to Hornchurch (including 30
accident and 8 illness) were removed by the Dagenham ambulances
running 580 miles, also 23 cases (including 13 accident and 8
illness) were removed by the Romford ambulance running 217
miles.
The motor ambulance maintained by the Upminster and Hornchurch
Division of the Essex Branch of the St. John Ambulance
Brigade has continued to serve the district during the year and the
Hon. Treasurer has kindly supplied the following figures relating
to cases dealt with by them :

(ii) Public Assistance cases are removed to Oldchurch Hospital
by motor ambulances provided for the purpose and kept at the
institution.
(iii) The Romford Joint Hospital Board remove cases of
notifiable infectious diseases by motor ambulances which are
stationed at the Hospital, Rush Green.
4. Nursing in the Home.
Local Nursing Associations are established in the following
centres.—
Hornchurch, Rainham and Wennington, Upminster and
Cranham.
The local associations are affiliated to the Essex County Nursing
Association.
5. Clinics and Treatment Centres.
The County Council is the Local Authority for Maternity and
Child Welfare and for the medical services among school children.
NURSING AND MATERNITY HOMES.
There are 7 registered Nursing and Maternity Homes in the
District.
MIDWIVES.
The number of midwives practising in the District, some of
whom live just outside, is 25,
