Sanitary Circumstances of the Area
Water
The South Essex Waterworks Company maintain a constant
supply of water in the populous parts of the District which is satisfactory
in quality and has not failed in quantity. Owing to the
great increase in the population which they serve the Company are
now completing a scheme for obtaining additional supplies of water
from the river Stour.
A sample of tap water was examined on the 13th May, 1931
by the County Pathologist, and the following report received:—
"The water has a good organic quality and from the chemical
standpoint wholesome and suitable for drinking and domestic
purposes."
Drainage, Sewerage, &c.
The Council has two sewage disposal works in the District,
one on Rainham Road and the other in the valley of the Ingrebourne
river.
In addition the Romford Urban Council have a disposal
works at Bretons Farm, Hornchurch, and the Dagenham Council
own the Riverside works in South Hornchurch.
Extensions of Sewerage
The Surveyor has kindly supplied the following information :
