Closet Accommodation
Most of the houses in the District are provided with closets
connected with sewers including 269 which drain to the Riverside
Outfall Works.
There are 625 houses which drain to cesspools.
Scavenging
The collection and disposal of house refuse is carried out
under the directions of the Surveyor. The house refuse is removed
weekly in horse drawn closed-in vehicles to a tip which is under the
control of the Council and where it is covered with earth. The
emptying of cesspools is only undertaken by the Council in one area
which is remote from any sewer.
