All carriers of Diphtheria are notified as suffering
from the disease and treated as such, with excellent
results in preventing the spread of the disease. No use
has been made of the Schick or Dick Tests, nor of the
recently developed artificial methods of immunization
against Scarlet Fever or Diphtheria.
No cases of Small Pox have occurred in this district,
and no contacts which have not been recently vaccinated
or re-vaccinated.
No vaccinations have been performed by me as
Medical Officer of Health.
There has been no epidemic in the district of the
non-notifiable infectious diseases during the past five
years. There was a very average amount of Measles,
with no deaths, and only 5 deaths from Whooping Cough
during the 5 years.
Notices are sent to me regularly by the School
Authorities in the event of any infectious disease occurring;
where it appears necessary the Schools are
visited to ascertain whether all precautions are being
taken to keep contacts away from school according to the
Regulations.
During the past 5 years Influenza caused the following
number of deaths:—
1921 4 1923 7
1922 5 1924 12
1925 5
There has been no locally contraated anthrax or
rabies in this district.
In cases of Cancer, where requested, the premises
are visited after death or removal of the patient, and are
disinfected, and bedding and clothing taken away to be
stored.
As already mentioned, premises and articles exposed
to infection are disinfected either by your Inspector or
removed to the hospital for steam disinfection.
No special arrangements are made by the Council
with regard to verminous persons. They are dealt with
by the Poor Law Authorities at the Infirmary.
