BIRTHS AND BIRTH-RATE.
Two hundred and seventy births, of which four were
illegitimate, were registered. The numbers for 1908 and 1909
were 251 and 240 respectively. The birth-rate for 1909 was
only 16.9, but this year I am glad to see it has risen to 18.07,
which is satisfactory, although not so good as the birth-rate
for 1908, which was 19.4.
DEATHS AND DEATH-RATE.
The number of deaths registered in the District was 78,
as against 91 last year. Three of these died in the Cottage
Hospital.
