2 samples of tuberculin tested Raw Milk were found to be positive to a test for
Rickettsia Burnetti. They were not produced locally and the matter was referred to
the Medical Officers of Health of the areas concerned.
2 samples of milk taken from a vending machine were found to be unsatisfactory.
On examination of the machine a mechanical defect, governing the temperature at which
the milk was being kept, was discovered. This was rectified and subsequent samples
were satisfactory.
Bottle Rinses
To test the efficiency of the bottle washing and sterilising processes at a
large milk bottling establishment in the Borough rinses are taken from a series of
bottles from a machine and submitted for bacteriological examination. The mean
bacteriological count expressed as points should not exceed 50.
120 rinses were taken during the year and the mean count in each case was
satisfactory.
Ice Cream
An inspection was made during the year of all premises in the Borough registered
for the sale of ice cream. 76 premises were removed from the register, the sale of
ice cream having been discontinued. 55 premises were found to be under different
proprietorship and the registration was amended accordingly.
