Act, 1936, as amended by Section 42 of the Middlesex County Council Act, 1956. The
service is restricted to persons who have no suitable relative living with them who is
able to deal with the articles.
44 persons were given the benefit of this service, soiled articles being
collected twice weekly.
Premises Licensed for Public Entertainment
In accordance with the usual procedure, inspections were made of the sanitary
arrangements, kitchens, etc. at premises licensed for public entertainment, and reports
thereon submitted to the Middlesex County Council in connection with applications
for the renewal of the licences. 47 premises were inspected and at 15 of these
works of repair, improvement or redecoration were found to be necessary. The
licensees were notified of these and at the end of the year all the necessary works
had been completed or were in hand. 103 visits were paid to these premises by the
Public Health Inspectors.
Licensed Premises
Inspections were carried out of the 43 licensed premises in the Borough and a
report submitted on the conditions found to the Licensing Justices for consideration
at the Brewster Sessions, when applications for renewal of the licences are dealt
with.
The inspections covered bars, kitchens, storerooms, cellars and sanitary conveniences
and at 28 premises works were found to be necessary. These related
principally to repair or redecoration of sanitary conveniences, renewal of kitchen
equipment and redecoration of kitchens, bars and cellars. All premises now have, as
a result of work in previous years, adequate staff washing facilities, including hot
water supplies, but regrettably few have such facilities available for the use of
customers about to take meals or refreshment at the premises. The power to enforce
the provision of such an everyday essential amenity in such premises is long overdue.
Agriculture (Safety, Health and Welfare Provisions) Act, 1956
Inspections were carried out of the 13 "agricultural units" in the area to ensure
that the provisions of the Act relating to the providing and maintaining of suitable
sanitary conveniences for the workers were being complied with.
At 3 farms it was found that sufficient conveniences were not available and at
2 others that they were not being properly maintained. The necessary notices were
served and by the end of the year all of these matters had been rectified.
