Infective Hepatitis is usually mild but it can be followed by ill-health for as
long a period as two months. (1)
There is no proof that it is not responsible for chronic liver disease in later
life and fatal cases have been reported (2)
There would appear to be a need for more information about the epidemiology of
infective hepatitis and I support the plea that it should be made notifiable. (1)
I was surprised to find that no reference was made to the disease in the Joint
Memorandum on "The Closure of Schools and Exclusion from Schools on account of
Infectious Illness "published last year by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry
of Health
I suggest that it would be useful if the following recommendation was adopted for the guidance of Teachers and Medical Officers: -
Disease, | Period of Exclusion. | |
---|---|---|
Children suffering from disease | Children in whose family or household living together as a family the disease has occurred. | |
Infective Hepatitis | Two weeks | When Infective Hepatitis is endemic in a school, children who vomit should be excluded for one week. |
