Food Poisoning.
Twenty-two notifications of Food Poisoning were received
during the year.
The cases were distributed throughout the year as
follows :—
First Quarter. Second Quarter. Third Quarter. Fourth Quarter.

There were no outbreaks of Food Poisoning as such, the
notifications being confined to single cases.
In these cases the agent was identified in 9—Salmonella
Thompson 1, Shigella Sonnei 1, Salmonella Typhi Murium 7—
and the cause unknown in the remaining 13.
There was a reduction in 10 in the number of notifications,
32 having been received in 1950.
Poliomyelitis and Polioencephalitis.
The increased incidence of this group of diseases evident
in recent years was not maintained in 1951, 6 cases being
notified compared with 21 in 1950 and 32 in 1949.
The following table gives particulars of the cases which
were notified. It will be seen that four of the cases occurred
in children under 10 years of age and the remaining two, 20
years and 25 years respectively. Two of the children notified
were members of one family.
The cases were spread throughout the year, two occurring
in January, one in June and three in October.
