The Hyde School is the only school that has its own
playing-field, but the Committee have a large playingfield
at The Burroughs, which is used by several schools.
There is an open-space close to St. Mary's C.E.
School which is available for romping and informal
games, though not suitable for cricket and football.
Hendon Park is also available and has good cricket
and football ground. It is within easy reach of Bell
Lane School. The Committee rent a field at Cricklewood
which is used by 4 schools in that neighbourhood.
The Council has recently acquired a field of 8 acres
between Wessex Gardens and the Child's Hill group of
schools which will be available for them.
The Mill Hill Park is open to the 2 schools at Mill
Hill.
In the Garden Suburb, negotiations for playingfield
accommodation are in progress.
On the Watling Estate, the site of the London
County Council Housing Scheme, playing fields will be
provided which will serve the schools to be erected on
that estate, and also the Burnt Oak School.
Thus the schools will before long be very well provided
for in this respect.
Non-provided Schools:
The standard in these is lower and the variations
greater. St. Mary's C.E. and St. Agnes' R.C. are on
the whole, very satisfactory. They are attractive
buildings with sufficient room both in and around them
and an air of freshness about them. On the other hand,
St. Mary's R.C. and St. John's C.E. are cramped, the
latter hemmed in by other buildings and right on the
street. They have insufficient playground accommodation.
All Saints' School, although it has been much improved,
is a rambling building, close to the street and
other buildings, the arrangement of the building being
such that the corridors are rather poorly lighted. The
playground is rather small and on a slope.
