The health of the district is exceedingly good and yet
the calls on the Public Health Department are constant and
heavy. I hope it is not too much to claim that the way in
which these calls are met plays some part in maintaining the
high .level of health of the district.
The form of the report is prescribed in a schedule issued
by the Ministry of Health. This has been closely followed
but some additional matter has been interpolated, which I
hope will be found interesting.
The following features seem to be worthy of special
mention:—
The rapid growth of the population—see Tables I. and II.
and the remarks on page 8
Vital Statistics—Table VIII., page 28.
During the 5 years under review the following will
be noticed:—
The steady decline of the birth rate.
The very low and practically stationary deathrate.
The steady decline of the infant mortality rate
and the exceedingly low figure recorded
in 1925.
I would also draw attention to the progress made with
regard to the New Isolation Hospital.
