Grade Count Faecal Coli
I Below 500 Nil
II 500 - 10.000 Nil
III 10,000 - 100 , 000 Nil
IV over 100,000 or present
The grading of samples taken was as follows:-
Grade I 12 or 27.90%
Grade II 24 or 55.82%
Grade III 2 or 4.65%
Grade IV 5 or 11.63%
These results, with nearly 84% of the samples falling in
Grades I and II, are the best we have ever had. No attempt was
made to obtain artificially good results by taking large numbers
of samples from the national manufacturers, whose products are
of consistently good bacteriological quality; the samples were
taken almost exclusively from manufacturers and itinerant vendors
whose products have been found to be unreliable in this
respect.
All vehicles from which unwrapped ice cream is sold are
equipped with wash basins and carry supplies of hot water, soap,
towels and nailbrushes.
Ihe Inspection of Meat and Other Foods.
By Orders (S.I. Nos. 2154 and 2155 - 1960) made by the
Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food under The Slaughterbouse
Reports (Appointed Day) Order, 1959 the Construction
Regulations contained in the Slaughterhouse (Hygiene) Regulations,
1958. and the Slaughter of Animals (Prevention of
Cruelty) Regulations, 1958, are in force.
There are now no licensed slaughterhouses in the district.
A large proportion of the meat sold in the district comes from
the London wholesale markets and there does not appear to be
any demand from the trade for slaughtering facilities in this
district.
One slaughterman's licence was issued.
