These figures show a general improvement over last year.
Whilst it would be unwise to draw conclusions from the comparison
of figures for only two consecutive years - the trend over a
number of years is the only safe basis - it is encouraging to
note that the reduction shown at the Grange Park School station
which is situated on the fringe of an area which came under
Smoke Control on the 1st September, is considerably greater than
at the other sites. It is also noteworthy that the substantial
reduction in the smoke pollution figures is accompanied by a
similarly substantial reduction in the sulphur figures.
No serious fog occurred during the year.
(j) Publicity.
The Coal Utilisation Council's demonstration centre was
sited in the district for 6 months and made a very valuable contribution
to the spread of information on smokeless fuels and
modern appliances.
The North Thames Gas Board's mobile showroom was also
frequently used,
