the usual practice of clearing stopped drains.
Keeping of Animals.
Byelaws under Section 81 of the Public Health Act to control
the keeping of pigs, horses and cattle are in force. They deal
with the structural condition and cleanliness of premises in
which these animals are kept, boiling of swill, drainage, the
storage of manure etc.
Rodent Control.
During the early weeks of the year the post of rodent operator
twice fell vacant. On the second occasion repeated advertisements
failed to attract any suitable applicants and the
vacancy remained unfilled for the rest of the year. Treatment
carried out during this time was of a rudimentary nature and
consisted mainly of providing householders with poisoned bait
and giving them instructions how to use it. Only the least
toxic of available poisons was used. When infestations occurred
at non-domestic premises the occupiers were advised to enlist
the services of one of the many private operators engaged in
this work.
The statistical report on rodent control is set out in
Appendix XI.
