In addition Mass Radiography Unit 6B of the North East
Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board revisited the Borough during
the year to carry out a survey which had been held every two
years.
The number of persons examined by the Unit at the various
sessions were as follows:-
Public sessions on two year Survey visit 10,271
Industrial Visits 9,120
Regular weekly sessions in Billet Lane 3,887
Total: 23,278
Information was received from Dr. Shoulman, Medical
Director of the Unit, that owing to the reduction of the Mass
Radiography Service, Unit 6B will be closed in 1971.
Care of the Tuberculous
Aftercare assistance for patients suffering from tuberculosis
and contacts of cases continues to be provided by the Havering
Tuberculosis Care Association who are provided with a grant for
this purpose by the Council.
Milk for Tuberculous Patients:
One pint of milk per day is provided free of charge to
patients suffering from tuberculosis when recommended by the
Chest Physician. During the year 15 new patients were recommended,
and a total of 85 received milk during the year. This compares
with a figure of 86 patients who received milk in 1969.
Medical Arrangements for Long Stay Immigrants
During the year advice notes were received from various
Port Health Authorities in respect of 129 immigrants who were
stated to be proceeding to addresses in the Borough-an increase
of 52 on the previous year.
In 102 cases successful contact was made and appropriate
advice given on health matters. Of the remaining 27 the majority
were coming to work in one of the five local hospitals in the
Borough, or were either not known or failed to arrive at the address
given.
