HOUSING INSPECTION AND REPAIRS.
As in previous years the inspection and repair
of dwelling-houses have taken an important place in the
work of the Department. The main object has been to
maintain a reasonable standard of fitness of the older
properties whilst a general raising of the standard of
accommodation is brought about by the provision of
new houses. This has been no simple task. The problems
associated with old and worn-out properties persist and
are too well known to need restating, whilst economic
factors have resulted in more and more of the better type
of property coming into the field of action by the
Department,
