Humane Slaughter of Animals
In accordance with the provisions of the Slaughter of Animals
Act, 1958, which repealed the Act of 1933, all animals slaughtered
in a slaughterhouse within the district must be stunned by means of a
mechanically operated instrument kept in good repair.
This method of slaughter continues to prove satisfactory.
Licensed Slaughtermen
The Act also provides that no animal shall be slaughtered or
stunned by any person who is not the holder of a licence granted
by the local authority. The licences granted by the Council have
to be renewed annually. Two persons were licensed during 1960.
