GENERAL HEALTH SERVICES
INFANT WELFARE CENTRES
There are 4 Infant Welfare Centres at which seven sessions are held weekly. As a result of the increase
in the birth-rate the centres have become overcrowded and arrangements have been made to increase the
weekly sessions to 10.

ANTENATAL CLINIC
Four sessions are held each week at the Health Centre, Oak Lane.
Eight hundred and eighty-two mothers attended the antenatal clinic in 1947 as compared with 912
in 1946 and 772 in 1945.
The number of women attending represented 65.6% of the total notified births.

DOMICILIARY MIDWIFERY
There are 4 Municipal Midwives all of whom are trained in the administration of analgesia.
During the year they attended 231 cases as Midwives and 39 as Maternity Nurses.
MATERNITY ACCOMMODATION
The difficulty in getting institutional accommodation for confinements was as acute as ever it has
been and admission had to be limited to those for whom it was necessary on medical grounds or on account
of unsuitable home conditions.
