MATERNAL MORTALITY
One mother died in 1947 giving a maternal mortality rate of 0.74 per 1,000 births. The rate for
England and Wales was 1.17.
DEATHS
There were 830 deaths in 1947, 56 more than in 1946. The death-rate was 11.74 per 1,000 estimated
resident population and for England and Wales it was 12.0.
The increase in the number of deaths in 1947 over the previous year is almost entirely due to the fact that deaths from disease of the heart and circulatory system had gone up by 51.
