Butchers' Shops.
A systematic inspection of the 35 butchers' shops in
the district was also undertaken in order to secure compliance
with the Meat Regulations in regard to the
storage and the prevention of contamination of meat.
Suggestions were made for the improvement of certain
shops and these were favourably considered by the
traders concerned and the necessary alterations have been
carried out. Improvements in the methods of storage,
handling, etc., of meat have been effected in many
instances and the conditions generally are satisfactory.
Some controversy has taken place as to the exact
requirements of the Regulations regarding the protection
of meat exposed for sale in shops from contamination bodies,
dust or mud. In this connection, the Minister of
