Special Housing Circumstances.
Having regard to the influx of residents from abroad
into local housing accommodation, a sanitary inspection
and overcrowding survey was carried out at all such dwellings
when it was found that the majority of the responsible
householders were co-operative and were acquiescent to
public health essentials. Whilst the number of occupants is
apt to be somewhat fluid, in the light of "permitted numbers,"
no gross overcrowding was located, neither were
any major nuisances detected.
It was however, necessary to insist on certain improvements
being affected, and it is proposed to keep these
dwellings and the associated housing conditions under review.
D (13) The Rent Act 1957.
Most of the enquiries by tenants regarding this Act
relate to repairs, and the appropriate methods to be taken to
obtain prompt rent reductions. In many cases it is found
that action under the Public Health Act effects the requisite
improvement much quicker than by the Rent Act alone,
but for the most dilatory owner, a combination of both Acts
often proves to be the most effective procedure.
Action taken under the Rent Act, 1957, is enumerated
below: —
No. of applications for Certificates of Disrepair 45
No. of Certificates issued 27
No. of Revocations applied for 6
No. of Revocations granted 5
