D (5)d Drainage, Closet accommodation and Cesspools
The water carriage system has been practically universal
in the Borough for many years, and sewerage is disposed of
at the outfall vested in the West Kent Main Sewerage Board.
Twenty seven cesspools are known to exist, and these are
subject to cleansing service (Resolution of the Council dated
10th March, 1942).
During the year, one cesspool was abandoned, the
dwelling it served being subject to closing under the Housing
Act.
Corporation sewers have been extended to serve the
newly developed housing estates.
The increased number of cesspools is due to factory
extensions on the Belvedere marsh area where no sewers
exist.
