D (5)j Pet Animals Act 1951
There are 4 pet animals shops in the Borough, and
trading seems to have expanded during the year. All the
premises are well conducted and no contraventions of welfare
provisions which aim at securing humane conditions
at shops where animals are sold, were located.
In one instance however, it was proposed to sell caged
birds from a greengrocer's shop, but pursuant to informal
action, the project was abandoned.
"Economics of Domestic Pets" published by P. and
E.P., reveals that of British household pets, 6,000,000 are
cage birds, 5,200,000 are cats and 3,700,000 are dogs. The
total cost of foods for cats and dogs is estimated at more
than £40 million per year.
D (5)k Camping Sites
There are no camping sites in the Borough.
No licences under Section 269 Public Health Act 1936
were issued during the year, and none whatever are operative.
During the year, the area has been free from indiscriminate
caravan squatters.
D (5)1 Hop pickers
There are no hop fields in the district.
D (5)m Rodent control
(A) Two full time operatives are employed on rodent
control in accordance with the provisions of Circular N.S.19.
No major infestations have occurred during the year
and all complaints arising from industrial and private
sources have been appropriately dealt with.
