C (5) Smallpox.
During the year owing to the dispersal of the passengers
and crew from S.S. Mooltan, from which a fatal case of Smallpox
was removed, a number of contacts were notified as having
proceeded to the Borough of Erith.
Action was taken for the daily supervision of these contacts
by the Medical Officer of Health and Sanitary Inspectors, a
watch being kept for the onset of any illness which might have
some relation to Smallpox. Fortunately the danger period
passed and no case of Smallpox developed in the Borough.
The County Medical Officer of Health has supplied the
following figures in regard to the number of persons who were
vaccinated against smallpox during the year ended 31st
December 1949.
