The incidence of folliculosis (12.1 per cent. against 29.3
per cent.) and gingivitis (7.1 per cent. against 14.3 per cent.)
was only half the average elsewhere.
The nutritional status of the girls was good and of a higher
standard than that of girls examined elsewhere. 92.5 per cent.
were assessed good, 7.5 per cent. fair and none poor in comparison
with 88 per cent., 9.6 per cent. and 2.4 per cent
respectively elsewhere.
The incidence of folliculosis and gingivitis was much less
than the average elsewhere.
No case of cheilosis, angular stomatitis or corneal
vascularization was observed in boys or girls.
B. Expectant Mothers.
Only 14 expectant mothers were examined; a number too
small for analysis or comparison. The nutritional status of all
those seen was very satisfactory.
C. Factory Workers.
Adolescents.
90 males and 106 females were examined and their general
nutritional status was good. That of the females was somewhat
below and that of the males above the average examined elsewhere.
A large proportion of the females assessed "fair"
came from one factory and it may be that the lighter type of
work there attracted less robust individuals. The impression
obtained was that the status of the adolescents of both sexes
was quite satisfactory.
Adults.
The same remark applies to the nutritional status of the
154 adult males and 145 adult females examined. One male
case of vascularization of the cornea was seen but this was his
only sign of possible deficiency. In both adults and adoescents
the incidence of folliculosis and gingivitis was well below the
average found elsewhere.
The following table illustrate the clinical findings:—
