In all 702 persons were examined, 343 males and 359
females.
The clinical findings are set out in the table attached and
the percentages for all persons of corresponding group examined
elsewhere up to the end of 1944 are noted for comparison.
Comment.
A. School Children.
Ninety-nine boys and ninety-four girls in all were examined
from the junior sections of three and the senior "sections of two
elementary schools. Ages ranged from 8—14 years. A midday
meal and milk are provided at all these schools.
The nutritional status of the boys was satisfactory on the
whole but more than usual were found to be below normal
87.9 per cent. were assessed good, 10.1 per cent. fair and 2
per cent. poor as compared with 90 per cent. good, 9.6 per
cent. fair and 0.4 per cent. poor of boys examined elsewhere.
There was no evidence of deficiency disease, nor of any vitamin
deficiency, and those graded below par appeared to be suffering
from a suboptimal intake or utilisation of body building
foodstuffs in that their general physical development was
below average for their age.
